NETCO Project

The Network of Cities for Cooperative Housing (NETCO) ran from May 2022 to April 2024 and aimed, in the short term, to mobilise cities, local professionals and individuals interested in the cooperative housing model to exchange ideas and address social inclusion and participation through a practice-oriented approach. In the medium term, this network sought to open forums and channels between collaborative housing initiatives and stakeholders, including local public actors, to promote policy changes and instruments that facilitate the success of these initiatives. Finally, the long-term outcome of the project was to help establish and improve collaborative housing programs at the local level, scale up these initiatives, and expand the Network to include other cities and policy levels. NETCO was integrated by ten EU countries and two non-EU countries with 16 partners. The participating cities include: Spain (Barcelona, as coordinator), Germany (Id22 – Berlin and Dresden), Portugal (Lisbon), Greece (Thessaloniki), the Netherlands (Amsterdam and Eindhoven), France (Grand Lyons and Strasbourg), Croatia (Zagreb), Romania (Cluj), Belgium (Brussels), Slovenia (Ljubljana), Italy (Turin and Bologna), United Kingdom and Norway (Oslo).This diverse composition provided a balanced representation of cities from northern, southern, central and eastern Europe, each with a different welfare system and local political systems.The project organised exchanges and discussions on the key policies necessary for the success of cooperative housing, maintaining a strong practical orientation to align the knowledge and interests of city professionals, civil society individuals
