ABOUT
HOUSING
THESSALONIKI
Access to affordable, adequate and decent housing is a fundamental human right recognised by the UN and international standards.
Affordable Housing is defined as a dwelling which the occupant can maintain (i.e. can meet the costs of its operation and maintenance) while at the same time having sufficient disposable income to cover the other basic needs for a decent living for himself and his family.
LOCAL ACTION PLAN
FOR SOCIAL AND AFFORDABLE
HOUSING
The Municipality of Thessaloniki and MDAT SA, in a joint effort with stakeholders and organisations in the city, have developed the Local Strategy for Social and Affordable Housing and for combating homelessness.
For Thessaloniki, one of the key strategic priorities for ensuring the right to housing is to focus on the creation of a viable and long-term social and affordable housing stock and to provide innovative housing solutions to combat housing exclusion and housing precariousness.
DUAL AIM OF
"HOUSING THESSALONIKI"
To raise awareness and provide reliable data on the right to housing and on access to and exclusion from housing, through tools such as: surveys, programmes and good practices, an interactive geospatial data map mapping the supply and demand of affordable housing, legal framework at international and national level for the exercise of the right to housing.
To provide access to practical issues and information to tenants and those facing housing instability and exclusion. The platform also provides essential information on social and affordable housing programmes, including the potential registry of public and private vacant properties.
MDAT SA within the framework of the local strategy has launched a number of research initiatives on the issue of housing in the city of Thessaloniki and more centrally undertook the operation of the Social Rental Agency of Thessaloniki and connected services related to housing.
